Elgin City manager Ross Jack slammed Albion Rovers' tactics as the Moray side took control in their first ever play-off.

Rovers finished the game with ten men, along with picking up a glut of bookings.

After the game Elgin City boss said "Bus Parked but we wasted chances. We played some great stuff especially in the first half and cut them open umpteen times.

"Albion Rovers were out to stop Daniel Moore and our wide men and chop them down as often as they could. We need to be strong and handle that to we had so many chances begging in the first half.

"Rovers had some players booked and some of the tackles were borderline but there was a fantastic home crowd here tonight - just short of 1300 - and we should have captalised on the chances that we created."

The big crowd at Borough Briggs saw saw the first chance comw from Rovers when Danny Ferry's cross from the left hand side was just not high enough for tall striker John Gemmell with Zander Clark claiming the ball.

Elgin were next to try there luck in front of goal in the 6th minute when Craig Gunn's through ball found Brian Cameron whose right hand sided effort was parried by David Gaston and came to Alex Cooper on the edge of the box who struck his effort and then he had a penalty claim turned down by referee Frank McDermott after the ball struck Ciaran Donnelly's hand.

City then had another effort in the 11th minute after Daniel Moore who just came back from injury for tonight's game's free kick was just headed over the bar by captain David Niven, another rued chance for the Moray side.

Albion offered little than a series of long aimless balls and attacker John Gemmell was next to try his luck in front of goal but he knocked it wide in what was a rare chance for the tall striker.

Rovers's Todd Lumsden was then cautioned for plunging his studs into 6ft 10inch striker Paul Miller with some of the home crowd even thinking it was a red card offence.

The Coatbridge side were then reduced to ten men after Michael O'Byrne brough down big striker Paul Miller when Miller was on route to goal with referee Frank McDermott having no other choice than to give O'Byrne his sending orders.

In the only decent chance left in the first half it fell to player of the year Daniel Moore whose free kick on the edge of the box which just narrowly cleared the crossbar.

Elgin City took the lead in the 53rd minute when Alex Cooper passed into Daniel Moore whose deflected shot spung into the path of Paul Miller who rifled it home from 10 yards unstoppable for Derek Gaston in the Rovers goal.

In the 65th minute Elgin had a chance to double their advantage when Daniel Moore's left hand sided cross went right over to the other side which was just headed over the bar by Paul Miller.

Daniel Moore was terroising the Rovers defence and he had a corner just three minutes later which was volleyed goalwards by Jamie Duff but his effort went straight at Derek Gaston.

In the real final chance of the game Robert Love sent the ball into the feet of Simon Marriott who then sent a low drive towards goal and Zander Clark watched it carefully go wide.

After six added on minutes Elgin held on and the secondnd leg will now be played at Cliftonhill on Saturday with Albion Rovers without the suspended Michael O'Byrne.
