SPL Weekend Predictions: Hearts to repeat their 5-1 scoreline?

Ladbrokes Game On!

By Andrew Southwick:

Last week's Ladbrokes bets didn't go too well. What had promised to be an entertaining opener between Celtic and Aberdeen turned into a game riddled with schoolboy errors. Fitting perhaps it was settled by a horror mistake by Dons 'keeper Jamie Langfield.

To compound our misery, we only got one out of three right in our chosen treble, with Kilmarnock and St Mirren failing to grab the three points against so-called weaker opposition.

This weekend, we put the fixture list to the panel on The Away End podcast as we bid to recover from our first week defeat.

Five games take place in the SPL this weekend, with the Edinburgh derby the pick of the bunch.

Sunday's live ESPN showdown sees Hibernian welcome Hearts to Easter Road for the first time since the visitors destroyed the Hibees in May's Scottish Cup final.

For Hibs to avenge that defeat with a similar scoreline, you're getting unsurprisingly large odds of 225/1. Don't be tempted, Hibs have shown little evidence they have improved from the side that shockingly blew their chance of a lifetime at Hampden.

For Hearts to again notch up a 5-1 win is 150/1. However, a side that has lost Rudi Skacel, Ian Black and Craig Beattie look a little bit weaker at the moment and more vulnerable.

Hearts will go into it as big favourites though, and we're backing two likely scorelines of 2-1 (9/1) and 2-0 (10/1).

For Hibs this game is massive. They not only have stacks of pride to play for, defeat would keep them bottom of the table and six points behind the Jambos already. It's also a few years since they even won a derby.

On the other hand, the boys in maroon may just have thoughts elsewhere, with Liverpool waiting for them in the Europa League.

Therefore, put £2 on a battling 1-1 draw(11-2). Keep the same scoreline and add another £1 on a scorecast with Leigh Griffiths to bag the first goal (28/1).

On Saturday, Scottish football is celebrating The Away End backed #selloutsaturday. Bumper crowds are expected across the country which will hopefully encourage some cracking games.

There was some heated debate in the studio, however we have finally agreed on a four-game accumulator of Aberdeen, Inverness Caley Thistle, Motherwell and St Mirren. We're putting £1 on the accumulator, and the other £4 on four trebles, giving us potential returns of £67.10.

Aberdeen, Motherwell and Inverness CT are fancied to pull off their first home wins of the season, while Dundee - despite a good point on the first day of the season - will find it tough going at Dens Park against an entertaining St Mirren side.
