Aberdeen fans push for change with black and gold protest
The Red Army are set to change to black and gold, as they push for improvement at Pittodrie, writes Martin Currie.‘Aberdeen For Change’ is the brainchild of the aberdeen-mad.co.uk message board, while other fans laid a COFFIN at the front door before the game on Saturday.
The black coffin was blazoned with the words "Thank You Stewart Milne" as disgruntled fans made their feelings clear after the Dons were once again rooted to the bottom of the league.
Organisers originally proposed the idea of a new group to fellow fans on Sunday, and since then have been inundated with support, offers of help and hundreds of followers.
Surveys are currently being run regarding different areas of the club so that the group can come to a general consensus; while a website, twitter and facebook page are already up and running.
The five main talking points the group are focusing on are: The board, the management, the squad, the supporters and the stadium.
A spokesman said: “I still need to create a plan based on the aims and objects to explain how things can be done.
“At this point, I think we’re still at the awareness stage and exploiting facebook/twitter/email etc to drum up the support.
"Over time we would like to start discussions - we need to be more constructive in moves for change. It’s little steps for now though.”
He added: “Over 300 followers interested in 48 hours is not too bad.”
In a move similar to Manchester United’s green and gold scarf protest against their American owners, Aberdeen For Change have asked fans if they would be interested in buying a black and gold scarf to wear at matches.
However, they have made it clear that their group’s mission is not to get chairman Stewart Milne the sack.
