About us

Written by The Away End.

So who are we?  We are ‘The Away End’, a Scottish site dedicated to covering sport.

We began as an online Scottish football magazine. Not since the heady days of SFT has the game north of the border had a regular magazine devoted to it (that’s Scottish Football Today for those of you too young to remember, come in and take a seat, you are all very welcome here).

Up until now, we have produced six online issues beginning early 2009. We then took a break from producing magazines to instead launch the website, which we did in November 2009. In addition, we produce a weekly podcast (http://theawayend.libsyn.com), a variety of videos, and a new weekly newspaper.

In May 2011, we went into partnership with the BA (Hons) Sports Journalism degree at the University of the West of Scotland, the only degree of its kind in Scotland. This now allows us access to the state of the art facilities, as well as also using ‘The Away End’ as a teaching tool for the students.

However, this does not mean non-UWS students can’t get involved, and we regularly produce articles on football and other sports from freelance writers, bloggers and students from other institutions.

In August 2011, we released our brand new magazine - which gives a glimpse of what you can expect in future from a vibrant, innovative, new media publication like ourselves (try trying to say that when you’re drunk).
We also have plans for a monthly TV show virtue of the university’s brand new studios at the Hamilton and Ayr campuses, and have already produced a few pilot episodes of a women's football tv show at www.youtube.com/theawayendtv.

To keep up to date with whats happening, either check this website regularly, follow us at www.twitter.com/theawayend or www.facebook.com/theawayend, and check out our podcast at http://theawayend.libsyn.com.

In addition, we’re always on the lookout for more budding writers, so get involved by e-mailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The Away End is an independent sports publication and is not connected to or any official product of any club or organisation within Scottish Football or any other sport in any way, shape or form.

All articles - unless news pieces, interviews or videos - are the views of that of the writer who expressed them. Likewise, all views are not necessarily that of the University of the West of Scotland or The Away End.
From time to time we publish articles that are satirical and an attempt at humour, and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Everyone has the right of reply to anything written on this website or in the magazine, and any such correspondence e-mailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
